RTD C02 Teaser map small

 Topic:   Phylogenetics & Evolution
Instructor:

Dr. Julia Bechteler1 & Prof. Dr. Dietmar Quandt1
1Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Nees-Institut for Plant Biodiversity

Date:   19./20. July 2021
Time:   1-5 PM (CET), breaks included
Location:    via Zoom

Short abstract with content covered during RTD:

The RTD will provide a brief overview on molecular phylogenetic methods employed in modern biodiversity research. The participants will conduct hands-on exercises that will guide thought the workflow starting with the evaluation of nucleotide sequence data, the assembly of a sequence alignment and the analysis of such data resulting in a phylogenetic tree. Real data from a recently published paper on the evolution of land plants will provide the opportunity to deepen the understanding on the colonization of earth by plants and their diversification during the last 450 Million Years.

Previous experience: None required.

What you need to participate in the course:
Participants need to have access to a computer/laptop to follow the course. Used software will be provided by the instructors via Sciebo prior to the course. Thus, all participants need a Sciebo account (easy to get via university access).
