Short abstract with content covered during RTD:
Marine paleoclimatology aims at the reconstruction of key-parameters determining the ocean-climate system such as heat transport and distribution by ocean currents. The microscopic shells of foraminifera, produced by single-celled organisms and preserved in the marine sedimentary record, are pivotal archives of past oceanographic conditions. Through lectures and practical demonstrations, the participants will be familiarized with basic concepts for the application of foraminifera-based methods for the reconstruction of sea surface temperatures as well asof ocean circulation and dating of marine paleoclimatic archives. Particular focus is given to land-ocean coupling between the Humboldt Current System and Atacama paleoclimate.
Previous experience: Familiarity with MS Excel (basic statistics, diagrams)
What you need to participate in the course: Laptop (no tablet!) with MS Excel
Maximum number of participants: 8 (first come, first served).
PhD candidates of the CRC have priority to participate. Left spaces can be filled up by interested Postdocs of the CRC (write an email beforehand, if interested).
