Short abstract with content covered during RTD:

Paleoclimatic variability in the Atacama Desert in the Neogene and Quaternary may be linked to changes in landward moisture flux from the SE Pacific. Paleoclimatic modelling potentially provides insights into processes of land-ocean coupling, but require validation through paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic data from terrestrial and marine sedimentary archives. Through lectures and practical demonstrations, the students will be familiarized with the main terrestrial and marine sedimentary archives of land-ocean coupling in northern Chile, basic concepts of methods for the determination of their age and the reconstruction of pivotal environmental parameters such as water temperature or precipitation.
