Short abstract with content covered during RTD:
This hands-on workshop focuses on collaboratively designing an ArcGIS StoryMap to visualize key research and excursion sites from the third project phase. Participants will create a functional, shareable map highlighting sites visited during the introductory excursion as well as up to three key research locations from each subproject. Each participant or group will contribute a section of the StoryMap, allowing us to combine perspectives into a single cohesive product. The workshop will begin with an introduction to the basics of StoryMap creation, including incorporating vector data and customizing map elements. We will also discuss what content is essential to include and explore creative ways to present research sites. The overall goal is to produce a map that can serve as a tool for fostering connections between subprojects with overlapping research areas.
Previous experience:
No previous experience with ArcGIS or StoryMaps is required.
What you need to participate in the course:
Participants will need to make a free ArcGIS Public account or set up an Online account through their institute. Participants will need to indicate in advance whether their institution provides access to an ArcGIS Online license and whether they will bring their own laptop (an email will be sent out for this purpose). Groups will be formed accordingly. Participants should also brainstorm a few key sites relevant to their subproject and a few favourite sites from the introductory excursion, along with relevant photos saved on a USB stick.
Maximum number of participants: 20 (first come, first served).
PhD candidates of the CRC have priority to participate. Left spaces can be filled up by interested Postdocs of the CRC (write an email beforehand, if interested).
