Short abstract with content covered during RTD:
During this two-day workshop, the B04 team will provide an introduction to the fascinating and often overlooked world of microbial life in the Atacama Desert. Participants will learn about molecular biology techniques commonly used by the Atacama-B04 team, such as microbial DNA extraction from different environments found in the desert and 16S rRNA gene PCR. Additionally, attendees will gain an understanding of how to apply bioinformatics tools to analyze amplicon-sequencing-based microbial community data. The workshop will comprise of lectures on the usage and theory of R and QIIME 2, as well as interactive sessions with R and RStudio to conduct microbiota analysis from raw sequence data to publication-quality statistics and visualizations.
