Short abstract with content covered during RTD:
Raman spectroscopy is a non-destructive in situ technique focusing a laser beam onto solid, but also into liquid and gaseous material to gain structural information of the molecular structure of the sample. These can be used to identify minerals or biological compounds. Next to single-point analysis also 2- to 3-dimenional mappings of the distribution of phases in e.g. a rock sample can be attained at the micro-meter scale.
We will shortly dive into the theory behind the Raman scattering process, discuss data analysis and perform hands-on measurements. Participants will gain an understanding of the application, possibilities, and limitations of Raman spectroscopy.
