Short abstract with content covered during RTD:
In the course, we run a complete phylogenetic analysis using transcriptome data from desert insects as model organisms. After getting necessary background information, students extract multiple ortholog sequences from an existing transcriptome dataset, align concatenated sequences, and use these data for analysing phylogenetic relationships of the taxa involved. Different phylogenetic hypotheses are discussed using the resulting trees. In a next step, students are introduced in approaches to evaluate divergence times and biogeographical patterns.
Previous experience: Basic knowledge in Phylogeny.
