During the 10-15 of September, a small group of geologists from Chile and Germany, represented by Prof. Eduardo Campos, Prof. Rodrigo Riquelme, Sebastian Muñoz (all UCN) and Prof. Tibor Dunai and Benedikt Ritter (UoC) had a first collaborative field work around El Salvador. The main objective of this short fieldwork was to investigate the geological and geomorphological landscape evolution around El Salvador.
To reconstruct major changes in this system, an interplay of different methods will be used in the next years by the prospective PhD student Sebastian Munoz, such as sedimentology, cosmogenic nuclide exposure dating, tephrochronology and dating of supergene alterations. We want to thank CODELCO for fruitful discussions around the El Salvador copper mine visit. Furthermore, we want to thank Eduardo Campos, Rodrigo Riquelme and Sebastian Munoz for the preparation of this fieldwork. We are looking forward to a productive collaboration within the CRC of both universities.
